ACTIVITIES
Advocacy: Our advocacy takes place on many levels. We frequently advocate on behalf of all refugees, and individual refugees require help in protecting their rights and dignity, or to meet basic needs such as education, work and health rights. We are also accepted to represent our communities at the levels OPM, UNHCR and REF refugee leader’s meetings, where we present the challenges facing the refugee communities both in urban and settlement. we contribute to support OPM & UNHCR decisions making towards helping the urban refugees and as well as support changes in policy when called for, especially in areas such as immigration detention, work, health, and education rights. We advocate for the integration of refugees into national life, and urge the ending of all forms of discrimination and xenophobia.
EDUCATION: In the area of education with partnership with Amala we have graduated 4 banges of youth graduate in peace building, English for change makers, Economic for change maker and social entrepreneurships.
We have graduated over 300 graduates in our adult literacy program
In partnership with JRS we are able to educate more than 10
dropout children.
Promoting Self-reliance: We believed that the self-reliance strategy has very good aims and outcomes of empowering our fellow refugee refugees to become self-reliant as it reduces their dependence on humanitarian assistance if any. We therefore engaged in building the capacities of the refugee youth and women with income generating skills including tailoring training, book making training, computer course, hand crafts and netting and other vocational courses including entrepreneurship workshops, psychosocial training and Urban farming.
Future Plans
The USSURC noticed that most refugee families are led by working single mothers in the absence of the father figure and so many children cannot go with them to the hustle. So it plans to have a child center to provide for Day Care children’s sanctuary.
